25th Anniversary of the IIRRT

In 1996, Irish radiographers fulfilled their ambition to establish their own professional body which was launched at an Inaugural General Meeting in Galway on November 2nd 1996.  The name chosen was ‘The Irish Institute of Radiography’ which later (August 2007) became ‘The Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy’ in recognition of the two independent yet connected professions which we represent. The historic decision to break away from the London based Society and College of Radiographers was taken after a major consultation exercise in which all Irish radiographers were invited to take part.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the IIRRT and during this time the Institute has grown and gone from strength to strength which is testament to the hard work and dedication of countless serving Council member volunteers from both professions, staff and also to the support and commitment of our members.  We ask you to join us in celebration of this milestone and reflect on the accomplishments and progress achieved by our great professions to date and we look forward to many more successes in the future.

Wishing you all a lovely Christmas and a wonderful 2022.
