Any person that has been successfully validated and has taken up employment
in the Republic of Ireland can become a member

I qualified in Ireland, how do I become a member?

If you qualified as a radiographer in the Republic of Ireland simply fill in
the registration form (form C) below along with the direct debit form (form

I qualified outside Ireland, how do I become a member?

If your radiography qualification is from outside the Republic of Ireland
you need Form A and Form B (below) to apply for Validation by the
Radiographers Qualifications and Review Board of the Irish Institute of
Radiography. Validation entitles you to work as a radiographer in the
Republic of Ireland. For further information on the validation process click
here.

Validation by the Radiographers qualifications and Review Board of the Irish
Institute of Radiography does not make you a member of the Irish Institute

Statutory Registration

Statutory registration is once again under discussion.

This legislation will play an extremely important role in the regulation of the profession of radiography in Ireland. A number of key points are: -

1. To practice radiography in the Republic of Ireland a radiographer will have to be state registered.

2. To remain on the register a radiographer must show proof of continuing professional development.

3. All non-nationally qualified radiographers will have to have their qualifications validated; this is a current requirement.

4. All radiographers currently practicing or employed will have to apply for registration. There is no automatic entry to the register.

It would be very useful if members could familiarise themselves with the consultative document before the regional meetings. This should facilitate a more informed debate.

The original document is available from the Department of Health website under publications.
