Online Courses

Published: October, 28 2010

The IIRRT has endeavoured to supply its members with appropriate online material for CPD in areas of interest to the profession. Below are the first two e-learning modules in the reportoire. We would appreciate any feedback you may have on these modules or even any suggestions for alternative learning materials.

1) Image Interpretation Modules

The IIRRT CPD officer has organised access for a number of Irish Radiography departments to the UKs comprehensive E-Learning for Healthcare Image Interpretation module. This is a complete E-Learning module covering all of the appendicular and axial skeleton both adults and paediatric. The course is divided up into modules which takes learners through each specific body area from anatomy to radiographic appearances, common abnormalities and normal variants. Modules can be completed in approximately 20 minutes each but importantly users can stop and start again as desired allowing flexibility and access can be from any internet enabled computer. Each section then has a self test at the end which on passing learners are able to print off a completion certificate which they can use as evidence of CPD.

For more information of if you would like to gain access to this brilliant resource, please contact the IIRRT CPD Officer directly for username and password access.

2) Practical Radiobiology

The IIRRT has purchased “Practical Radiobiology” an online CPD course containing 40 hours of refresher material. This course looks at the basic radiobiology and the radiobiological basis for fractionation schemes. The radiobiology theory component of this course is of particular interest to those who wish to refresh their knowledge on this subject area. Access is through a CD-ROM and is available to all IIRRT members by contacting the IIRRT CPD Officer.

Access will also soon be available through a link on this page

3) Leadership development

this module is available through the HSEland website. Leadership represents a key lever for successful transformation towards integrated service delivery. It influences the performance of all professions and grades in providing services for users. Health services require dispersed and collective forms of leadership, alongside active followership, core management practices and organizational direction. This contains

  • sections for new and experienced managers
  • finance and procurement (foundation module on financial management for new line managers)
  • a leaders guide
  • reference book for line managers
  • leaders forum

4) Health and Social Care Professionals Hub (HSEland)

This Hub has been developed by a subgroup of the H&SCP Education & Development Advisory Group and is managed by the H&SCP Education & Development Unit in the HSE.

On this hub you will be able to:

  • Find out more information about other H&SCP
  • Access relevant background information and documents
  • Find out about the H&SCP Advisory Group and it’s work
  • Find information about CPD, practice education, interprofessional education and research
  • Interact through blogs – initially there is a research blog and an interprofessional education blog
  • Access a range of learning resources which includes items such as e-learning modules, recordings and other outputs from CPD events
  • Share innovative ideas and approaches to services and find out what others are doing
  • Access the Journal of Interprofessional Care through the CAIPE link
  • And lots more…

GoRad

GO RAD is a new global outreach program developed by the International Society of Radiology. The purpose is to reach out to and advance radiology education throughout a global radiology community by aggregating current, practical, radiology literature with content targeted and dedicated to developing nations and underserved populations. Through agreements with these cooperating major radiology journals, the GO RAD platform provides immediate open access to a limited amount of otherwise restricted access content, providing an electronic link back to the original on-line article, at the time of first publication.
