Become a Member and Membership Benefits

Published: November, 3 2020

Why become a member?

The IIRRT is the professional body representing both Radiographers and Radiation Therapists in Ireland.  Membership of the IIRRT is open to anyone registered with the Radiographers Registration Board of CORU.  We currently have over 800 members across the country in both public and private practice.  There are a number of key benefits to becoming a member of the institute.

Professional Representation & National Engagement

The IIRRT engages with key stakeholders and Council members represent on a number of committees and working groups to ensure that our voice is heard and to ensure that the valuable contributions of our professions are recognised.

The IIRRT also lobbies consistently on behalf of its members on important professional matters.

Membership of International Organisations

The IIRRT is a member of a number of international organisations, such as the EFRS, ESTRO, and the ISRRT which provides an opportunity for our members to be involved with and influence European and International promotion of the professions.

Members can also avail of discounted membership rates to the BIR and the ESTRO RTT Alliance.

                                       Insurance

IIRRT members can avail of exclusive insurance schemes.  We have arranged a number of schemes with specially negotiated policy features and rates through Glennon Insurance.

The professional indemnity insurance protects against your legal liability arising from the provision of professional services and activities as outlined by the IIRRT, and the fitness to practice legal expenses insurance provides legal assistance and cover for legal fees in relation to matters arising from a complaint which has been referred to CORU.

In addition, motor, home, and travel insurance schemes are available with exclusive rates and policy features for IIRRT members (and spouses/partners).

Continuous Professional Development

The IIRRT is committed to professional development and to giving radiographers and radiation therapists every assistance in achieving their individual and collective CPD aspirations.

We organise and providing funding for a number of events each year with exclusive member-only events.  Members benefit from significantly reduced rates for attendance at numerous CPD activities, including the Annual National Conference.

Additionally, IIRRT members have free access to the IIRRT CPD Hub which is an online repository of educational activity on a number of topics that allows members to engage in CPD at a time that suits them.

Online Members Area & Electronic CPD Portfolio Builder

The website is a repository of profession related information in Ireland and contains useful documents such as best practice guidelines, regular news updates, and resources.

‘My Rad CPD’ is an electronic portfolio builder available exclusively to IIRRT members which facilitates the recording of CPD activities and the creation of professional development plans.  These records can be easily downloaded into a CORU template format for audit purposes if required.

                                         Research & Funding

IIRRT members can apply for funding for independent quality improvement initiatives, clinical research projects, and a number of bursaries are awarded to members each year for this purpose.  Funding is available for both students and full members.

Additionally, members have access to ‘Radiography’ and ‘Journal of Radiotherapy in Practice’ peer-reviewed journals to facilitate literature reviews.
